LEBANON, Ill.- McKendree swept Drury in a doubleheader winning the first game 8-0 in five innings and taking the second game 7-1 on Friday in Lebanon, Illinois.
For only the second time this season, Drury lost in a run-rule shortened game as the Bearcats scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to clinch an 8-0 win in five innings. McKendree took advantage of six walks issued by Drury pitching as well as three errors by the Panthers.
Abbi Liske ended the game with a two-RBI double that gave McKendree an eight-run lead. Emaree Stone allowed six runs in 3.2 innings in the loss.
Drury jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two, but the Bearcats promptly responded with a pair of runs in their half of the first and pulled away with two more runs in the third.
The Panthers out-hit McKendree 7-6 but could not score after their first inning tally.
Jacy Ummel went 2 for 3 at the plate in game two for Drury hitting a double and scoring the Panthers lone run. Dominque Salinas drove in Drury's run with an RBI single in the first inning.
McKendree improved to 29-12 and 14-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while Drury dropped to 13-21 and 4-14 in the league.
The Panthers continue their road trip tomorrow with a doubleheader at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. The first pitch for game one is scheduled for noon on the UMSL campus.
