SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– Winter weather pushed the start of Drury's four-game series against Rockhurst to Sunday as the two teams will play doubleheaders on Sunday and Monday afternoon at U.S. Baseball Park in Ozark. Both days start at noon.
Sunday is Pack the Park day sponsored by Mid-America Transplant, Big Whiskey's and Cy-Sports. Prizes will be given out throughout the first game of the doubleheader with the grand prize being four tickets to the St. Louis Cardinals-Chicago Cubs game on May 5 at Busch Stadium.
The Panthers enter the series winners of five straight and are 15-15 with a 6-2 record in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. On Wednesday, Drury defeated Southwest Baptist 8-4 and swept a four-game series at Truman State last weekend.
Rockhurst is 7-17 and 2-6 in the GLVC.
Austin Simms (5-2, 2.49 ERA) is Drury's probable starter for game one on Sunday. The senior has won each of his last five starts and has struck out 18 batters in his previous 17 innings pitched. Simms was the GLVC Pitcher of the Week after his March 24 start against UMSL when he pitched complete-game, five-hit shutout and tied a program record with 11 strikeouts in his nine-inning win.
Ryan Kayhill carries a 10-game hitting streak into the series. The junior outfielder went 2 for 4 with two runs scored on Wednesday at Southwest Baptist. Kayhill is hitting .439 during the streak as he is 18 for 41 at the plate in his last 10 games.
The 2018 Drury baseball season is sponsored by Aaron Sachs and Associates.
Tickets to Drury games at US Baseball Park are $5 with children ages 12 and under admitted free and can be purchased at the stadium gates.
