Panthers Fall Twice to Maryville in Extra Innings

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.- Drury fell twice in extra innings in a GLVC doubleheader with Maryville on Sunday, falling 2-1 in the opener and dropping the nightcap 3-2 at Thompson Field in Springfield.

In the opener, an error with two outs in the bottom of the second allowed Dominique Salinas to score from first and get the Panthers on the board.  Maryville pulled even in the top of the third, also scoring on a fielding error.

Drury had a good scoring opportunity in the fourth when they loaded the bases, but Maryville was able to hold.  After four scoreless innings, a Jaclyn Pasakarnis led off the eighth with a solo homer to right, her team-leading seventh of the year, to give Maryville a 2-1 victory.

Hailly Greenough went 2 for 3 at the plate for Drury who finished with five hits.  Drury left 10 runners on base and the Saints stranded eight.

Kasey Cazeres (3-6) posted five strikeouts in eight innings and allowed two runs in a losing effort.

In the nightcap an RBI double in the top of the fourth helped Maryville pull in front 2-1.  Courtney Kinion answered with a two out single in the Panther fourth to plate Dominique Salinas and knot it up.

The Saints claimed their second extra inning win of the day when Kelsey Martin drove in the game-winning run on an RBI single to right in the eighth.

Abbey LeJong went 2-for-3 and Emily Stringer was 2-for-4 to lead the Panthers.  Both teams racked up seven hits.

Drury slipped to 10-18 and 3-11 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Maryville improved to 20-15-1 and 7-9 in the league.

Drury is at home again on Monday when they host Missouri S&T in a doubleheader that starts at 11:30 a.m. at Thompson Field.
