LAKELAND, Fla.- Drury split two matches against ranked teams on Friday as they knocked off fourth-ranked Ferris State 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-23, 25-15) and lost at 23rd ranked Florida Southern 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-19) in Lakeland, Florida.
Drury started the day with a 3-1 win over Ferris State. The Panthers won the first set 25-20 and lost the second 25-22. The Bulldogs (4-1) had a 23-22 lead in the third, but Drury won the last three points to win the set 25-23. The Panthers then ran away with the fourth set with a 25-15 win to close out the match.
Bentley Mara had 16 kills, and
Emmalee Chrest added another 15 for Drury.
Kendra Sater added 43 assists while
Bree Schmidt had 27 digs and two service aces. Drury recorded 18 blocks in the match and
Taylor Forth was credited with nine block assists.
Florida Southern avenged their loss to the Panthers last weekend with a 3-0 win in Drury's second game of the day. The Mocs posted a .303 hitting percentage and racked up 14 team blocks. Tierra Porter had five solo blocks and seven block assists in the win.
Mara led the Panthers with 16 kills while
Kendra Sater had 32 assists.
Drury ended the day with a 4-2 record. Three of Drury's four wins have been against ranked opponents, and five of their six games have come against teams in the top 25.
Drury travels to Tampa, Florida on Saturday and will play 25th ranked Tampa followed by a match against Rollins to close out their four-game Florida road trip.
