Balanced attack leads No. 14 Panthers past Indianapolis

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.- The 14th ranked Drury Panthers used a balanced offensive attack to win their seventh straight game with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-17) win over Indianapolis on Friday night at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.

Drury stayed unbeaten in the Great Lakes Valley Conference as they improved to 11-2 overall and 5-0 in the GLVC. The Greyhounds had their six-game winning streak snapped and suffered their first loss in the league as they went to 5-1 in the conference and 10-4 on the season.

Taylor Forth and Landyn Kozlowski each had 10 kills for the Panthers while Emmalee Chrest had eight. Kendra Sater had 35 assists, and Bentley Mara registered three service aces in the win.

Katie Furlong, the conference leader in kills, had 12 to lead Indianapolis.

"One of the things that made us successful tonight was that we had everybody across the board contributing," said Drury head coach Jenifer Bahner. "It was really exciting to see two new people lead us in attacking with Landyn and Taylor…they both played with such confidence and both executed so well."

The Panthers posted a .308 hitting percentage with Kowlowski hitting .476 while Forth put up a .440 mark.

"When we recruited Taylor, attacking was actually her strength," noted Bahner. "But we've worked with her so much on her blocking that much of her focus has been on that part of her game. I think we're starting to see her attacking coming back now.

"She (and our whole team) showed a real volleyball IQ tonight. They saw the floor well; they knew when to go up and show power as well as when to mix it up and take something off. It was good to see us make some good decisions and it shows a level of maturity and growth on this team."

Drury is home again tomorrow when they host fourth-ranked Lewis for a 3 p.m. game at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
