OZARK –
Kaleb Schmidt, a junior transfer from Springfield Kickapoo, tied the Drury strikeout record with 11 K's against Lewis to help the Panthers to a 13-0 non-conference win Friday at US Baseball Park in Ozark.
The Panthers improved to 3-4 while Lewis (3-1) suffered their first loss of the year in game one of four in the weekend series.
Drury owned a 4-0 lead after three innings, and scored a pair of runs in the first and third innings.
Clayton Engel drove home two of those runs with an RBI sac fly in the opening inning and an RBI triple in the third.
The Panthers tacked on four runs on four hits in the fifth to blow it wide open 8-0.
Nikko Calabro (2 RBI double) and
Aaron Mann (RBI triple) highlighted a four runs on four hits sixth inning.
Drury would need two runs for a run rule win after seven innings and scored five runs in the sixth for a 13-0 final.
Brandt Ollinger led the Panthers at the plate going 4-for-4, scored three runs, and had an RBI. Drury outhit Lewis 12-4 with both teams leaving five runners on base. Schmidt (1-2) recorded the stellar win and pitched six shutout innings while allowing just two hits. Pete Hamot (0-1) received the loss for the Flyers and allowed four runs in four innings.
The Panthers will continue their series with Lewis on Saturday with first pitch of a doubleheader set for a noon start in the non-conference series at U.S. Baseball Park in Ozark.
