DU Takes Non-Conference Pair from Lewis Saturday, 7-3 and 11-1

OZARK – Brandt Ollinger had another outstanding offensive day going 5-for-6, scoring four runs, and driving home 3 RBIs to help the Drury baseball Panthers earn a pair of non-conference wins, 7-3 and 11-1 over Lewis on Saturday at US Baseball Park in Ozark.  Drury tied the single game record for stolen bases in the opener with nine.

The Panthers improved to 5-4 and dropped Lewis to (3-3).

In the opener, Drury put up a pair of runs in the opening inning coming on an RBI single from Ollinger and an RBI sac fly from Clayton Engel.  The Flyers knotted the game up in the top of the second on a pair of RBI knocks.

Drury claimed three run lead (5-2) in the third on a wild pitch that allowed Ethan Owens to plate, an RBI double by Engel, and capped off the inning with an RBI single by Collin Fraley.  Both teams traded runs in the fourth with Owens making it 6-3 on an RBI sac fly.  Drury added their final run on the balk that allowed Brant Schaffitzel to cross in the sixth.

Ollinger and Fraley both finished with a 2-for-3 game and had an RBI, Ollinger also added a run in the Panthers eight hit outing.

Tom Tewes (2-1) earned the win and posted 4 Ks in five innings with three earned runs.  Blake Marks (0-1) received the loss for the Flyers and allowed five earned runs in 3.1 innings of action.

In the nightcap, Drury jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings with an Ollinger two run homer in the opening frame and a RBI single by Schaffitzel in the second. Drury tacked on four runs on five hits in the fifth and added two runs in each of the sixth and seventh to run rule the Flyers.
Drury outhit Lewis 17-1 and behind winning pitcher Kaden Helsel's (2-0) six inning and nine strikeout performance kept the Flyers offense from being productive.  Bayler Hinz finished the game with a 2-for-3 game that included a three-run homer in the fifth and Schaffitzel went 2-for-2 with run and an RBI at the top of the Panther lineup.

The Panthers will wrap up their four game series with Lewis on Sunday with action set to begin at noon at U.S. Baseball Park in Ozark.
