Panthers win two on Sunday to go 3-1 in Ouachita Baptist tournament

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- Drury won twice on Sunday to go 3-1 in the Ronnie Hawkins Invitational tournament hosted by Ouachita Baptist in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. The Panthers won their first game on Sunday with a 9-0 victory in five innings over Christian Brothers and followed with a 2-0 shutout of host Ouachita Baptist.
 
Drury pitching allowed only three hits in the two games combined while collecting 20 hits at the plate. The Panthers out-hit their opponent in all four games in the tournament.  
 
In their first game on Sunday, Drury pounced on Christian Brothers with a seven-run opening frame as the Panthers sent 11 batters to the plate. Leading 3-0, Devin Hale drove in a pair of runs with a triple and Drury capped off their scoring in the inning with RBI singles from Madison Hecker and Kaelie Smith.
 
Kinzy Mathis went 3 for 3 at the plate for Drury with a double, three runs batted in and a stolen base. Kasey Cazares (2-0) went five innings for the complete-game win allowing only two hits with one walk and five strikeouts.
 
Drury won their second game of the day scoring two runs in the top of the seventh for a 2-0 shutout of Ouachita Baptist.
 
Madison Resch (1-1) fired a one-hitter as the senior from Groves, Texas allowed no walks and recorded one strikeout. 
 
Megan Holmes broke the scoreless deadlock in the top of the seventh with a bases-loaded single. Madoline Seumalo followed with a ground ball that drove in Kaelie Smith to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead. Resch then retired the Tigers in order in the bottom half of the inning to close out the game.
 
Drury is off to a 3-1 start for the first time since 2013. 
 
The Panthers return to action next week when they travel to San Antonio, Texas for the St. Mary's Classic Feb. 8-10. Drury opens the event against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Feb. 8 at 10 a.m.
