DU Softball Earns Sweep in Final Spring Break Competition

CLERMONT, Fla. -  The Drury Softball Panthers swept Lake Erie 11-0 (run rule) and Kutztown 7-3, at Hancock Park Field on Wednesday in Spring Break action.  Drury went 6-2 over the Spring break games and the Panthers are now 17-6 on the season.
 
Kutztown State dropped to 7-8 and Lake Erie is now 4-6.

In the opener, Drury jumped out to an early 6-0 lead with four runs in the first and two in the third inning on an RBI double by Jacy Ummel and a sac fly from Madoline Seumalo. A Devin Hale RBI single and a pair of unearned runs in the Panther fourth made it 9-0 Drury.  Fourth inning RBIs singles by Megan Tersteeg and Hale sealed the run rule 11-0 shutout.

Kasey Cazares went five innings and was very effective with a career-high nine strikeouts for the Panthers, who outhit Lake Erie by a 14-2 tally.

In game two, Drury jumped on Kutztown in the second inning and scored three runs on three hits with Serenity Healy hitting home Kinzy Mathis to highlight the inning.  Drury added a run in the fifth and tacked on three runs sixth coming on a two RBI double from Devin Hale and an RBI single by Ummel.

Drury held Kutztown scoreless until the final inning when they scored three runs on three hits and one error. Madison Resch (3-2) earned the win and went the distance allowing just four hits.

Seumalo and Ummel were both was 2-for-4 and scored runs for the Panthers who finished with nine hits. 

The Panthers next scheduled contest is on Sunday when they return to GLVC action and travel to Missouri S&T on Sunday for a noon-doubleheader.
