ROLLA, Mo.- The Drury Panthers opened Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a split of a doubleheader at Missouri S&T losing game one 1-0 and winning game two 8-2 in Rolla on Sunday.

Drury ended the day 18-7 and 1-1 in the GLVC while the Miners moved their record to 6-14 and 1-1 in the conference.

Missouri S&T starter Avery English (3-1) shut out the Panthers in game one holding Drury to four hits. She walked four and struck out seven as the Panthers left 10 runners stranded.

In the top of the seventh, Drury had runners and first and second, but
Megan Holmes' line drive was snared by Miners third baseman Jacy Allen to end the game.

Drury's
Hailly Greenough (2-2) took a tough loss as she held Missouri S&T to only two hits. After allowing a first-inning run, she surrendered just one hit, one walk and no runs the rest of the way. Greenough went a total of six innings allowing two hits and one run with two walks and nine strikeouts.

The Panthers broke out offensively in the second inning of game two scoring six runs in the frame highlighted by a two-run homer by
Madoline Seumalo, her fourth of the year.
Kaelie Smith,
Jacy Ummel,
Serenity Healy, and Seumalo all finished the game with two RBI's each, and
Kasey Cazares (4-1) got the win going seven innings allowing five hits and two runs with one walk and nine strikeouts.

Drury is idle until Saturday when they take on William Jewell in a conference doubleheader that starts at noon in Liberty, Missouri.
