LIBERTY, Mo. - The Drury Softball Panthers came from behind twice to earn a pair of GLVC wins, 9-8 and 8-7, at William Jewell on Sunday.
Devin Hale went 7-for-7 on the day for the Panthers and finished with three RBIs and three runs.
Drury improved to 21-8 and 4-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while the Cardinals slipped to 13-9 and 4-4 in the league.
In game one, Jewell tacked on four runs in the opening inning, with three of those coming on doubles. A
Megan Tersteeg double and a two run homer by
Madison Hecker in the Panther second cut the Cardinals lead to a run (4-3). The Jewell bats continued to be hot as they put up a four spot once again coming on four hits in the bottom half of the second (8-4).
Drury edged closer with a run in the fourth coming on an RBI single up the middle by
Megan Holmes to score Hale. Drury got just what the needed to edge the Cardinals in the fifth inning when they put up five runs on five hits. RBI singles by
Kinzy Mathis and Hale started the fifth inning rally and a three run homer from
Madoline Seumalo sealed the Panther victory.
The Panthers outhit Jewell 14-10 and were led by Hale who went a perfect 4-for-4, scored three runs, and drove home one.
Daisy Dudek (7-1) came into to shut the door for the final six innings and allowed just three hits and no runs.
In the nightcap, the Cardinals held a commanding 7-1 lead after four innings, putting up six runs in the second frame. Drury claimed their second come from behind win by scoring a pair of runs in the fifth and added five runs on four hits in the sixth to edge past Jewell 8-7 and claim the series sweep. Serenity Healy.
Drury had nine hits and Hale went 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
Kasey Cazares (5-2) came in to finish the final 5.1 innings and allowed just one run and three hits.
The Panthers host UINDY on March 30 for a noon doubleheader at Thompson Field.
