Panthers sweep Lewis to improve to 23-8 and 6-2 in the GLVC

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.- The Drury Panthers have their best record through 31 games in program history as they moved to 23-8 and 6-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference after their doubleheader sweep of Lewis on Sunday at Thompson Field in Springfield. Drury won game one 6-1 and took the second game 5-3.

The Flyers dropped to 11-17 and 4-6 in the league with the losses.

The Panthers took the lead in game one scoring twice in the third inning. Jacy Ummel hit an RBI double, and Serenity Healy put Drury in front 2-1 with a sacrifice fly. The Panthers added two more runs an inning later as Madison Hecker drove in a pair with a double and Drury capped their scoring with two more runs in the sixth.

Hecker ended the game going 2 for 3 with three runs batted in and a pair of doubles. Devin Hale, who was coming off of a 7-for-8 day at William Jewell last week, went 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored.

Kasey Cazares (6-2) got the win going seven innings allowing six hits and one run with one walk and two strikeouts.

In game two, the Panthers grabbed a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning as Madoline Seumalo belted a two-RBI double that scored Kinzy Mathis and Megan Holmes. In the fifth, Mathis homered to left-center for a two-run shot that gave Drury a 5-1 advantage.

Lewis threatened in the sixth scoring twice, and they had the tying run at the plate with one out in the seventh before the Panthers ended the game with a 5-4-3 double play.

Mathis went 2 for 3 in the game scoring twice, and the home run was her fourth of the year. Seumalo also went 2 for 3 with two RBI's and a double and Megan Tersteeg also had two hits including a double and a run scored.

Hailly Greenough (4-2) picked up the win going seven innings surrendering three runs and three runs with four walks and four strikeouts.

The wins stretched Drury's winning streak to five games. Their 23 wins are already the fourth-most in the program's 12-year history.
