SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– The Panthers open their Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule this weekend with a three-game series against Southern Indiana on Saturday at Sunday at U.S. Baseball Park in Ozark. The threat of rain has adjusted the start of Saturday's doubleheader and game one is scheduled for a 2 pm first pitch. Sunday's game starts at noon, and all three games of the series are nine-inning contests as the GLVC goes into its first year with a new format for their league schedule. The conference is no longer divided into two divisions, but this season will compete as a single, 14-team league.
The Panthers are 6-8 and coming off of a 4-3 loss at Central Missouri on Wednesday. Drury owned a 3-2 going into the bottom of the ninth but fell by a run and suffered their fourth one-run loss of the season.
Southern Indiana is 7-5, but the Screaming Eagles have lost four straight. Southern Indiana fell 5-4 to Young Harris on Wednesday and dropped a 13-2 contest to Georgia College & State University on Tuesday.
This weekend's series will be the first meeting between the two teams since 2017 when the Panthers took two out of three games in Evansville in a non-conference series. Southern Indiana leads the all-time series 21-9.
Entering this weekend, Colin Frayley leads the Panthers in hitting with .371 average, no homers and three runs batted in.
Clayton Engel has 11 RBI's for Drury in 12 games played and
Nikko Calabro his hitting .306 with no homers and seven RBI's.
Following this weekend's series, the Panthers travel to Missouri Southern State on Tuesday for a 3 pm game in Joplin.
