CLERMONT, Fla. - The Drury Softball Panthers extended their winning streak to eight games with a doubleheader sweep of Hillsdale College 4-3 in extra innings, and then downed Slippery Rock 7-3 at Hancock Park Field on Saturday.
The Panthers improved to 13-4 while Hillsdale fell to 2-6 and Slippery Rock slipped to 1-6.
In Saturday's opener, the Drury jumped out to a 2-0 lead with an RBI single by
Madison Hecker and an RBI sac fly from
Kaelie Smith. Hillsdale tied it up in the top of the fifth on a RBI single and an error. Neither team was able to plate a run in the final two innings to lead to extra innings.
Hillsdale took a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth, but Drury did them one better with runs in the bottom of the eight coming from an RBI double from Smith and the game winning RBI single off the bat of
Madoline Seumalo for the 4-3 win.
Smith went 3-for-3 with two RBIs to pace the Panthers who outhit Hillsdale 9-5.
Daisy Dudek (6-1) earned the win and went four innings.
In game two,
Kinzy Mathis went yard with a two run shot in the top of the third to give DU a 2-0 lead. It was Mathis again in the fifth who drove home the Panthers third run and Hecker made it 4-0 with an RBI sac fly. Mathis blasted her second homer of the day, a three run shot in the sixth to help DU out to a 7-0 lead. Maggie Moore of Slippery Rock had a three run shot of her own to get Slippery Rock on the board in the bottom of the sixth.
Mathis led DU with 6 RBIs and went 3-for-3 and
Megan Holmes went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles to help Drury outhit Slippery Rock 11-6.
Madison Resch (2-2) earned the win and went six innings while allowing three earned runs and six hits.
The Panthers next scheduled contest is on March 10 when they play Nyack at 8:30 am in and Ferris State at 10:45 a.m. (CST) in Clermont, Florida.
