SPRINGFIELD, Ill.— Drury bounced back from being swept in a doubleheader on Sunday and pounced on Illinois Springfield for a 13-3 win in seven innings on Monday at USI Baseball Field in Springfield, Illinois to end the three-game road series.
The Panthers improved to 15-16 and 8-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while the Prairie Stars fell to 18-8-1 and 9-6 in the league.
Drury scored three runs in the first, but Illinois Springfield answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game. The Panthers shut out the Prairie Stars the rest of the way and took command with a four-run third inning.
Aaron Mann put Drury in front with an RBI single, then
Brandt Ollinger drew a bases-loaded walk, and
Ethan Owens' single drove in two more.
Ryan Kayhill had five runs batted in during the contest driving in two with a single in the fourth and slamming a three-run homer in the fifth that put the Panthers ahead 13-3. It was the second home run of the season for the senior from Lee's Summit.
After allowing three runs in the first inning, Drury starter
Hunter Becker settled down and ended the day going seven innings allowing six hits and three runs with three walks and three strikeouts to improve to 4-0.
Drury first baseman
Nikko Calabro went 2 for 2 with four runs scored, three RBI's, three walks and he hit his third home run of the season.
The Panthers return home for a doubleheader on Wednesday against Missouri S&T. Game one starts at 2 pm at US Baseball Park in Ozark.
