OZARK, Mo. - The Drury baseball Panthers earned a GLVC split in a twin bill with Missouri S&T. Drury won the nightcap 10-0 after seven innings after falling 5-3 in the opener at US Baseball Park on Wednesday.
Drury moved to 16-17, 9-8 GLVC in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while the Miners go to 19-9 overall and 12-5 in the league.
In the opener the Miners put up a pair of runs in the third and tacked on runs in the following two frames to hold a 4-0 lead after five innings. Fifth inning RBI singles by
Clayton Engel and
Ryan Kayhill along with an RBI walk by
Nikko Calabro cut the Miners lead to a run 4-3 in the Drury fifth.
Missouri S&T extended their lead back to a 5-3 advantage with a run in the sixth. Drury threatened and loaded the bases in the bottom half of the sixth but could not bring a run across.
Jackson Dierenfeldt went 2-for-2 and
Brandt Ollinger went 2-for-3 to lead the Panthers who finished with eight hits to the Miners nine base knocks.
Collin Fraley (2-2) received the loss and Chasen Anderson (2-1) earned the win for Missouri S&T.
In the nightcap, Drury took their first lead of the day (5-0) with five runs on four hits in the opening frame. Drury added three runs on three hits and an error in the second inning to push their lead to 8-0.
Engel went yard in the Panther fourth to push the Panther lead to 9-0 and a wild pitch in the fifth would give Drury a 10-0 lead.
Engel finished the game 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs to pace the Panthers who finished with 10 hits to the Miners three.
Andrew Hastings (1-0) went the distance for the shutout win for the Panthers and posted four strikeouts.
The Panthers will travel to Truman State for a three game GLVC Series and kick off doubleheader action on April 6 with first pitch set for noon.
