Panthers sweep Lincoln to raise their record to 31-14

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.- Drury surpassed the 30-win total for the second time in program history after a doubleheader sweep of Lincoln University on Tuesday in Jefferson City, Missouri. The Panthers won game one 6-1 and took game two 14-2 in five innings.
 
Drury improved to 31-14, and their 31 wins are the most since they went 36-19 in the 2012 season. The Blue Tigers fell to 4-42.
 
Drury scored all six of their runs in the first two innings of game one as they put up a pair of runs in the opening frame on a two-run homer by Jacy Ummel. The Panthers scored four more in the second as Abbey LeJong hit an RBI double and later scored on a wild pitch. After Ummel drew a walk, Kinzy Mathis blasted her sixth home run of the season to put Drury ahead 6-1.
 
Panthers starter Kasey Cazares (11-3) got the win going seven innings allowing just two hits, one unearned run, and one walk with three strikeouts.
 
Drury scored eight runs in the first inning of game two on their way to a 14-2 win to complete the sweep. Kinzy Mathis homered for a second-straight game, and her three-run shot gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead in the first. Drury added five more runs in the frame highlighted by a two-RBI double by Kaelie Smith.
 
The Panthers tacked on three more runs in the third inning and three more in the fifth. Mathis ended the game with four RBI's while Jacy Ummel went 2 for 2 with a run, a double, and an RBI.
 
Seven different Drury players had a hit, and 11 different Panthers scored as Drury won by run-rule for the ninth time this season.
 
Taylor Norwald (3-0) got the win for Drury going four innings and allowing four hits, two runs, and no walks.
 
The Panthers return home and are back in conference play when they take on Quincy for a noon doubleheader on Friday at Thompson Field.
