Panthers win game one, stymied in game two at SBU

BOLIVAR, Mo.- Drury controlled game one for a 6-1 win but were held to just four hits in the second game in a 5-1 loss as they split a doubleheader at Southwest Baptist on Thursday in Bolivar, Missouri.

The Panthers ended the day with a 34-17 record while the Bearcats went to 7-44.

Drury won the first game as Kasey Cazares (14-3) guided the Panthers to the win as she went seven innings surrendering five runs, and one run with one walk and two strikeouts.

Drury took a 2-1 lead in the fourth on an RBI-single by Megan Holmes, then Madoline Seumalo followed with a two-run home run that put the Panthers in front by three. Kinzy Mathis' ground ball drove in another run in the same inning, and Drury scored again in the seventh with a bases-loaded walk to Devin Hale to give the Panthers a 6-1 lead.

Southwest Baptist scored all five of their runs in game two on home runs as they got an inside-the-park homer from Lauren Strobel in the second inning to go ahead 1-0, then a two-run shot from Miranda Aguilar in the fourth.

Drury scored in the top of the fifth on an RBI-single by Kinzy Mathis, but SBU answered in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run homer by Morgan McMullin.

The Panthers put two runners on base in the seventh inning but they both reached with two outs, and the Bearcats closed out the game with a ground ball to earn the split. Drury stranded eight runners in the loss.
