DU Softball Drops Pair in GLVC Action vs. Maryville

SPRINGFIELD – The Drury softball Panthers dropped a GLVC pair vs. Maryville, by scores of 6-2 and 6-4 on Saturday at Thompson Field.

Drury moved to 34-19, 12-12 GLVC and Maryville goes to 31-16, 16-8 GLVC.

In the opener, the Saints scored the games first two runs with an RBI double in the opening frame and a wild pitch that allowed a run in the second inning.  Hailly Greenough cut that lead in half with her first homer of the season on a solo blast to left in the bottom half of the second.
Drury loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth but the Saints were able to hold the Panthers at bay and keep their one run lead.   Maryville tacked on three runs in the top of the fifth, one on double and a pair on wild pitches to extend their lead to 5-1.

Devin Hale singled home Serenity Healy in the Panther sixth but Drury could draw no closer. Maryville tacked on their final run on an RBI single in the top of the seventh.

Megan Holmes went 2-for-3 to lead the Panthers who finished with six hits to the Saints seven.  Kasey Cazares (14-4) received the loss in four innings on the mound and Olivia Jarvis (16-10) earned the win for Maryville.

In the nightcap, Maryville jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the opening two frames with one in the first and three runs in the second.  Drury cut the lead to 4-2 with an RBI fielders choice by Devin Hale and an RBI sacrifice fly by Kaelie Smith in the second.

Drury pulled to within a run in the bottom of the third when Madison Resch had an RBI groundout to plate pinch runner Courtney Kinion.  Both teams traded runs in the fourth inning to make it Maryville 5-4 heading into the final two innings.   Maryville tacked on a run late to seal the 6-4 nightcap win.

Serenity Healy went 2-for-3 and scored a run and Ummel went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Maryville outhit the Panthers 11-7 with Alyssa Callans (13-6) earned the win and Greenough (6-8) received the loss.

Up next for the Drury softball Panthers will be their GLVC and regular season finale vs. UMSL with first pitch set for noon on Sunday at Thompson Field.
