INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.— Fresh off of a win over number one ranked Bellarmine on Monday, the Indianapolis Greyhounds shot 56 percent from the field and connected on 14 of their 25 three-point attempts while Drury had, by far, their worst shooting game of the season and was dealt a 97-58 setback at Indianapolis on Thursday.
The Panthers fell to 11-6 and 4-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while the Greyhounds improved to 13-4 and 5-4 in the league.
Drury shot a season-low 29 percent from the field hitting 19 of their 66 shots and went just three for 24 from three-point range.
Indianapolis jumped out to an 11-2 in the game's first four minutes and led 18-5 before the Panthers made a run. Drury pulled within six, 18-12, with 11 minutes left in the first half, but the Greyhounds regrouped after a timeout and scored eight unanswered points. The Panthers never pulled within single-digits of the lead for the rest of the night.
"We got it handed to us," said Drury head coach
Steve Hesser. "As coaches, we're trying to get our guys to understand what you have to do to compete in this league. We've got to keep working because, obviously tonight, it was unacceptable. But it's not what happens to you - it's how you respond."
Cory Miller, Jr. led Indianapolis with 20 points on 7 of 9 shooting, and he was 3 for 3 from three-point range. Jordache Mavunga had 19 points going 6 for 12 from the field while Trevor Lakes was a perfect 6 for 6 from the floor, 4 for 4 from behind the arc to end the game with 16 points.
Freshman
Broc Smith led Drury with 11 points and had a team-high six rebounds.
The Panthers head to number one ranked Bellarmine on Saturday for a 2 pm (CST) game in Louisville, Kentucky.
