DU swim teams combine to win six events in final day of dual at SMU

DALLAS, Tex.— The Drury men's swimming & diving team set two pool records and won four of seven events while DU women's squad won a pair of events on the third and final day of a dual at Southern Methodist University on Saturday in Dallas, Texas. The two teams also combined for four school records on the last day of the meet against the Division I program. Team scores were not kept for the event.
 
Men's Highlights
Karol Ostrowski, a freshman from Poland, won the 100 Freestyle and set an NCAA-II record, his second such mark of the weekend, with a time of 41.50. The Panthers also finished third and fourth in the event as Alex Bowen swam a 43.90 to come in third place while Oleksii Khnykin was right behind at 43.97. Ostrowski also broke the national record in NCAA-II in the 50 Free on Friday.
 
Nathan Bighetti gave Drury a first-place finish and set a program record in the 200 Backstroke. The junior from Brazil completed the event in 1:42.64, while Drury's Ahmed Wahby was third with a time of 1:45.37.
 
The Panthers also earned a one-two finish in the 200 Butterfly as Dominik Karacic claimed the event with a time of 1:45.73. His time is the second-best mark in team history. James Brown was second in the event. (1:47.41).
 
Drury ended the meet with a win and set a pool and team record in the 400 Free Relay. Ostrowski, Bowen, Khnykin, and Kham Glass combined for a time of 2:53.85. SMU also swam under the standing pool record time, posting a time of 2:54.69.
 
The Panthers had first-place finishes in 11 of the 19 swimming events against the Mustangs.  
 
Women's Highlights
Allison Weber opened Saturday's finals with a win in the 1650 Freestyle. The junior from Marshall, Missouri, posted the second-best time in program history (behind only Erin Dolan) as she swam a time of 16:37.22. Mackenzie Harris finished third with a time of 17:01.91.
 
Laura Pareja won the 200 Backstroke and set a team record in the event. The junior from Spain got the wall in 1:55.66 to set a new standard for the Panthers.
 
Yasmin Preusse added a third-place finish in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 50.64.
 
Drury finished the weekend's meet coming in second place in the 400 Free Relay. Pareja, Josie Bushell, Preusse, and Kasia Rogowska had a time of 3:23.34 to come in 1.53 seconds back of the winning time.
 
Both Drury swim teams compete again in a dual at William Jewell on Dec. 6.
