SPRINGFIELD, Mo. –The Drury softball Panthers dropped a pair on games in day two of action at the Drury Invitational, 12-7 against Northwest Missouri State and 2-1 vs. Northeastern State at Thompson Field on Saturday.
In the opener, Drury jumped out to a 5-1 lead vs. NW Missouri State after three innings, scoring four runs in the opening frame highlighted by a three run homer off the bat of
Serenity Healy. After a scoreless fourth inning both teams traded runs, each scoring two runs in the fifth to make it a 7-3 Panther advantage.
The Bearcats scored four runs in the sixth and put a five spot on the board coming on six hits in the seventh inning to complete a 12-7 come from behind victory.
Northwest finished with 17 hits and Drury had eight knocks led by
Abbey McAteer with a 3-for-3 performance and a run scored for the Panthers. Healy finished with a 2-for-3 game, drove home three runs, and scored twice.
Breck Dickey (2-7) got the win for Northwest and
Lauren Beier (1-3) received the loss.
In the nightcap, Drury scored in the opening inning on a
Kinzy Mathis single that scored Tiemann. The game remained scoreless until the top of the sixth when Northeastern State tied it up on an RBI single. A sacrifice fly in the seventh frame gave the RiverHawks a 2-1 victory.
Northeastern State hurler Gail Young (7-2) held DU to just two hits in the win and had six strikeouts.
Kasey Cazares (4-3) received the loss in two innings of action.
The Drury softball team returns to action on Sunday, March 1st when they will host Wayne State and Newman with game times set for 12 p.m. and 1:45 p.m.
