SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– The Drury Panthers got wins from
Ben Stahlman,
Alex Garrett, and
Jared Rennick, but Fort Hays State built an early lead and picked up a 33-13 win at Weiser Gym on Friday night.
Drury lost the first two matches by forfeit. Then, in a battle of nationally-ranked wrestlers at 141 pounds, Brandon Ball picked up a 6-0 win for the Tigers over Drury's
Peter Kuster. Ball entered the match ranked second in the weight class while Kuster was ranked number eight.
Ben Stahlman got the Panthers' first win of the night. Competing at 157 pounds, the junior from House Springs, Missouri, earned a 9-6 win over Tristan Porsch.
Alex Garrett, a sophomore from Willard, followed with a win by Fall at 2:37 against Josh Lenker.
Jared Rennick then finished the night with a win for Drury in the heavyweight class as he won by Major Decision, 11-2, over AJ Cooper.
Friday was Senior Night as Drury also honored three seniors:
Colin Harper (Springfield-Kickapoo),
Trenton Clines (Fulton, Mo.), and
Jacob Brune (Jefferson City, Mo.).
"Tonight we honored our seniors," said Drury head coach
James Reynolds. "This group started and finished here at Drury. All three of them will walk across the stage this Spring. We are thankful for them and what they worked so hard to build. Stahlman persevered while Garrett and Rennick both dominated. We are growing as a team and individuals are starting to really step forward as leaders."
The Panthers will compete on Saturday in the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Open in Miami, Oklahoma.
