Drury swimmers power past Oklahoma Christian

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— The Drury men's and women's swimming & diving teams won nearly every event in a dual against Oklahoma Christian at the Breech Pool in Springfield on Saturday.  The Drury women's squad won each of the 16 events, while the DU men's team won 15 of the 16 events on Saturday. Saturday's dual was a non-scoring event.
 
Women's Highlights
Junior Bec Cross won a pair of events in the Oklahoma Christian dual. The native of Canberra, Australia, finished first in the 100 Breaststroke, and her time of 1:02.94 now ranks eighth nationally in NCAA-II. Cross then posted the fifth-best time in the nation in the 500 Freestyle, winning the race with a time of 4:53.89.
 
Drury's Allison Weber won the 1000 Free and was second in two other events. The junior from Marshall, Missouri, won the 1000 Free by 12 seconds, hitting the wall in 10:32.97. She returned for runner-up finishes in the 500 Free (5:07.99) and in the 200 Individual Medley (2:12.88).
 
Morgan Gullette, a freshman from Dallas, Texas, finished in the first in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:07.04, winning by more than five seconds. She then picked up a second-place finish in the 100 Back (59.13), and a third in the 200 IM (2:16.67).
 
Drury's 12 individual wins in the swimming events came from 11 different swimmers.
 
Men's Highlights
Drury's Dawid Nowodworski and James Brown both won three events in Saturday's dual.
 
Nowodworski, a senior from Poland, took first in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 54.20, a time that ranks him sixth in NCAA-II and is the fifth-best time in Drury history. He also won the 100 Butterfly with a time of 48.96 and was part of Drury's winning 200 Medley Relay team that took the event with a time of 1:32.28.
 
James Brown finished first in the 200 Butterfly posting a time of 1:52.20. The native of Northern Ireland returned to win the 200 Backstroke with a time of 1:53.67, and he anchored Drury's 400 Free Relay team that had a winning time of 3:05.64.
 
Drury sprinter Karol Ostrowski shifted to the 500 Free on Saturday and won the event by more than 14 seconds. The freshman from Poland completed the event in 4:35.76 in his lone event in Saturday's dual.
 
Caleb Carlson, a junior from Dixon, Illinois, took first in the 50 Free (20.49) and was second in the 100 Back (50.62).
  
Next for both Drury swim teams will be the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship held Feb. 10-13 in Elkhart, Indiana.
