SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Missouri S&T fought off Drury to win in four sets at the O'Reilly Family Event Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers ended the regular season 20-11 and 10-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Missouri S&T went to 19-10 and 12-6 in the GLVC.
The Miners grabbed a 10-4 lead to start the opening set on their way to a 25-19 victory in the first. They also had a quick start to the second, scoring eight of the first 10 points and closed out the frame 25-20.
The Panthers fought back with a 25-23 win in the third, but Missouri S&T took the fourth set 25-23 for the win.
"We struggled to get into a good rhythm early in the first couple of sets," said Drury head coach
Jenifer Bahner. "When you exert so much energy in the first couple sets trying to come back and survive, it wears you down. I think in that fourth set, we were just a step late."
Taylor Forth, in the final game of her career at the O'Reilly Family Event Center, led Drury with 10 kills. The senior from Gilbert, Iowa, added two aces and four block assists.
Chloe Rear had 34 assists for the Panthers.
Payton Gannaway had a game-high 18 kills along with 13 digs and two aces for Missouri S&T.
