BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Ferris State maintained a blazing 60 percent shooting performance throughout their game against Drury and handed the Panthers their first loss of the year, 124-77, on Sunday in Big Rapids, Michigan.
The Panthers dropped to 1-1 as they played their second game of the Ferris State Classic. The Bulldogs, who got a win on Friday on the first day of the event, raised their record to 2-0.
Ferris State hit 47 of their 78 attempts, and they connected on 19 of their 37 three-point tries for 51 percent. Drury shot just 36 percent going 22 for 62 from the field. The Panthers hit 7 of 23 three-point attempts and were 26 for 38 from the free-throw line.
"Ferris State played well; we got down early and got away from our style of basketball with too many one-on-one plays," said Drury head coach
Chris Foster. "I'm disappointed in how we played, but this should be a good learning experience. We need to come together as a team and have a good week of practice."
Returning All-Midwest Region selection Walt Kelser poured in 40 points for the Bulldogs going 15 for 19 from the field, including an 8 for 11 performance from three-point range, and the senior added five assists. Ben Davidson added 26 points going 11 for 14 from the floor.
Drury's
Victor Nwagbarachoa had 17 points with a team-high six rebounds.
Clay Gayman had 14 points, while
Malek Davis had 11.
Ferris State, picked second in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference preseason poll, owned a 48-33 rebounding advantage.
Drury goes back on the road for their next game as they travel to Southern Nazarene for a 7:30 pm game in Bethany, Oklahoma, on Friday, Nov. 19.
