SPRINGFIELD, Mo.- The Drury Panthers picked up a doubleheader sweep of Pittsburg State on Tuesday, winning game one 4-0 and the second game 9-4 at Thompson Field in Springfield on Tuesday.

Drury improved to 6-5 while dropping the Gorillas to 4-10.

Drury starting pitcher
Lauren Beier (2-1) fired a five-hit shutout in game one. The sophomore from Pevely, Missouri gave up just one walk while striking out seven. All five hits she allowed were singles.

The Panthers scored three runs in the third striking first on a sacrifice fly by
Hannah Chambliss.
Kinzy Mathis then smacked a two-run home run to center field to give Drury a three-run lead. The Panthers added another run an inning later on an RBI-double by
Abby Tiemann.

Tiemann finished the game going 3 for 4.

Drury scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a 4-4 tie and complete the sweep. The Panthers led 4-1, but Pittsburg State forged a tie with three runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Drury got singles from
Kinzy Mathis and
Lauren Beier to start the inning, and
Rylee Kolb's walk loaded the bases.
Abbey McAteer put Drury in front with a two-RBI single. After
Sydney Sneed reached base with a walk, pinch-hitter
Grace King slammed a three-run home run into the wind and over the left field fence.

McAteer went 2 for 3 with two runs, and two RBI's in the game.

Drury opens play in the Great Lakes Valley Conference on Friday when they host William Jewell in a doubleheader at 2 pm at Thompson Field.
