ROLLA, Mo.— Drury bounced back from game one loss to score 17 runs in game two and split a doubleheader with Missouri S&T on Sunday in Rolla. The Panthers fell in game one 8-6, then took the second game 17-3.
Drury ended the day with a 9-13 record and a 9-10 mark in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Miners went to 10-13 and 6-9 in the league.
In game one, the Drury could not overcome a five-run first inning. The Panthers put up a run in the second, but the Miners added two more in the bottom half of the inning to go up 7-1.
Drury pulled within two, 8-6, in the fourth after a two-RBI hit by
Jackson Dierenfeldt and a ground ball by
Brant Schaffitzel that drove in a run. Neither team scored in the final three innings of the seven-inning contest, though, as Missouri S&T hung on for the win.
Collin Fraley and
Ethan Owens both went 2 for 3 at the plate for the Panthers in the game.
In game two, Drury scored at least one run in all seven innings and started the contest with a four-run first. The Panthers banged out 19 hits and got home runs from
Stephen Randazzo,
Nikko Calabro,
Cooper Munro, and
DJ McNew, who hit his ninth homer of the year and his fifth bomb in the last five games.
McNew went 3 for 3 in the game with two runs, two RBI's, and a stolen base.
Aaron Mann went 2 for 3 scoring twice and driving in two runs.
Nine different Drury players had RBI's in the game. Drury won the game in a seven-inning run-rule
Cody Bahl (3-0) pitched all seven innings in a complete-game win. The freshman from Lee's Summit worked six shutout innings before allowing three runs in the seventh. He surrendered nine hits and only one walk while striking out a season-high nine batters.
The four-game conference series concludes on Monday with a 2 pm game in Rolla.
