JOPLIN, Mo.— Ninth-ranked Missouri Southern State got a grand slam in the fourth inning to propel them to a 10-3 win over Drury at Warren Turner Field in Joplin on Tuesday.
The loss dropped the Panthers to 9-15, while the Lions lifted their record to 22-6.
The Panthers scored in the top of the first to take the lead as
Jackson Dierenfeldt raced on home on a steal. An inning later, Dierenfeldt drove in a run with a single, and a
Brant Schaffitzel bunt would score another run giving Drury a 3-0 lead.
The Panthers would not score again, though, and Missouri Southern went in front for good in the fourth inning on a grand slam from Tommy Stevenson. The Lions tacked on two more runs in the sixth and again in the eighth.
Tom Tewes (0-2) took the loss in relief for Drury, while Jacob Davis (1-0) pitched five scoreless innings of relief to get the win for MSSU.
Missouri Southern's Henry Kusiak went 4 for 5 with a home run and two runs batted in, while Stevenson was 2 for 4 and finished with five RBIs.
Dierenfeldt went 4 for 4 for the Panthers, with a run, an RBI, a stolen base, and a walk.
This weekend, Drury is back at home when they host 12
th ranked Illinois Springfield in a four-game series starting Friday at 5 pm at US Baseball Park in Ozark, Missouri.
