SPRINGFIELD, Mo.- After being edged 4-3 in game one, the Drury Panthers responded with an 8-1 win to split a doubleheader against Lewis at Thompson Field in Springfield on Sunday.

Drury went to 23-12 overall and 17-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Flyers moved their record to 22-15 and 13-11 in the league. The Panthers moved into sole possession of second place in the GLVC and will head into the final week of the regular season leading McKendree and Maryville by one game in the loss column.

After taking a 3-2 lead in the second inning of game one, Lewis tied the game with a run in the third, then went in front on a solo home run by Gabi Nilles. The Panthers had their lead-off hitter reach base in their first four innings but were held to three runs.

Flyers starter Katie David (12-6) retired the last eight batters she faced to get the win.
Lauren Beier (4-5) took the loss for Drury.

In game two, the Panthers sent nine batters to the plate in each of the first two innings and built an 8-1 lead early.
Abby Tiemann went 3 for 4 for Drury and scored twice, and
Lauren Beier went 2 for 3 and drove in three runs.

Bailee Nixon (5-2) got the win going six innings, allowing four hits, one run, and one walk. Sara Serena (5-4) took the loss for Lewis.

Drury plays again on Saturday when they travel to Illinois Springfield for a doubleheader starting at noon.
