SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Drury University athletics had 32 student-athletes earn a Brother James Gaffney Distinguished Scholar Award from the Great Lakes Valley Conference for their work in the classroom in 2020-21.
 
Named after Brother James Gaffney FSC, the former President of Lewis University for more than 27 years and two-term Chair of the GLVC Council of Presidents, the award is presented annually to student-athletes competing in GLVC-sponsored sports who achieve a 4.0-grade point average during the academic year.
 
Drury had 11 student-athletes win the award for at least the second time in their career. Brant Schaffitzel, Cal Hartley, Sean Lowry, Luke Wegenka, Graham Wells, Tucker Caswell, Sydney Horton, Andrea Gray, Megan Tersteeg, Ashley McCullough, and Maycie Palmer are all repeat winners of the Gaffney Award.
