KANSAS CITY, Mo.–
Jamie O'Brien scored a pair of goals as the Drury Panthers improved to 2-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with a 3-1 win at Rockhurst in Kansas City on Friday night.
Drury moved to 2-3 overall as they picked up their second league win, while the Hawks fell to 1-4 and 0-1 in the GLVC.
After a scoreless first half, O'Brien got Drury on the board with a goal in the 48
th minute, assisted by
Jung So and goalkeeper
Yannick Lamers. O'Brien struck again in the 66
th minute to give the Panthers a 2-0 advantage on a shot that found the low right portion of the net. The two scores were O'Brien's first two goals of the season and the fourth multi-goal game of his career.
Rockhurst pulled within one, though, when Elluan Martins Gomes scored on an assist from David Ray-Campoy in the 69
th minute.
The Panthers got their two-goal margin back when
Adem Hamdaoua scored his first goal of the season, converting a penalty kick in the 75
th minute.
Drury goalkeeper
Yannick Lamers (2-2) got the win as he saw 11 shots and made five saves.
The victory was Drury's first win over Rockhurst since 2011 and broke a 10-game winless streak against the Hawks. The Panthers had gone 0-9-1 in their previous 10 games against Rockhurst, with the lone tie coming in the 2016 NCAA-II quarterfinals in a contest the Hawks took 5-4 on penalty kicks. The win was also Drury's first on Rockhurst's field since 2009.
The Panthers continue their road trip on Sunday when they travel to Willam Jewell for a 2:30 pm game in Liberty, Missouri.
