CANYON, Tex.– 11
th ranked West Texas A&M opened their season edging Drury 3-2 on Sunday in Canyon, Texas. The Panthers fell to 0-2, with both losses coming against nationally-ranked teams on the road, and both defeats were by a single goal.
The Buffalos struck for their first goal in the game's second minute as Giancarlo Saldana scored. Drury evened the game midway through the second half as
Joshua Lewis-Evans, a senior from Rickmansworth, England, picked up a goal in the 22
nd minute.
In the second half, West Texas A&M broke the 1-1 tie on a goal by Stefan Andjelic in the 66
th minute, and the Buffalos added another score 10 minutes later.
Despite being down a man with a red card issued to Drury in the 74
th minute, the Panthers got back in the game on a goal by freshman
Jacob Schmidt, but West Texas A&M hung on in the closing minutes for the win.
The Panthers are back on the road for their next game as they travel to Upper Iowa for a 2 pm game in Fayette, Iowa.
