Panthers improve to 2-0 with win over 19th ranked Delta State

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– The Drury Panthers picked up their second straight win to start the year 2-0 as they defeated 19th ranked Delta State 2-0 at Harrison Stadium in Springfield on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Statesmen dropped to 0-2 with the loss.

After a scoreless first half, the Panthers got on the board in the 78th minute. Kourtney Tucker's free kick set up a scramble in front of the net, and freshman Krysten Schuster put a shot past Delta State goalie Amanda Hilliard to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.

Inside of the game's final five minutes, Drury's Elsa Gonzalez put the match out of reach as the sophomore from Spain got through the Lady Statesmen defense to score her first goal of the year.

Kaitlyn Knetzke earned her second-straight shutout to start the year as the Drury goalkeeper was credited with three saves improving to 2-0 this season.

The Panthers play again on Friday when they travel to Wisconsin Parkside for a game at noon in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
