The Drury men's ice hockey team fell 2-6-0 on the season after an energetic two-game series against DePaul. Although prior to the first ACHA Division II rankings period, DePaul came into the series second in the overall standings with a 7-0-0 record.

The two teams opened a fast transition game in front of an energetic crowd at the Jordan Valley Ice Park. DePaul gained the early momentum on several odd-man rush opportunities but the Blue Demons were held off the scoreboard with several big stops by freshmen goaltender
Greyson Skirpan. The Panthers gained momentum late in the period on several power play chances but DePaul goaltender, Asher Motew equaled Skirpan in the netminding duel.

DePaul opened scoring in the first minute of the second period then capitalized on back-to-back penalties to the Panthers with a 5-on-3 power play goal at the 5:18 mark. Patty Labutis cut the deficit with an even-strength tally from
Owen McNamee and
Louis Fournier at the 16:28 mark but DePaul scored on a partial breakaway in the final minute of the period to hold the two-goal lead.

Motew backstopped DePaul to hold the lead and prevent a Panthers comeback. The Panthers couldn't answer on four-straight power play opportunities in the third period and DePaul added an empty-net goal in the final minute when DU Head Coach pulled goaltender to gain an extra attacker. Overall, Drury went 0-for-7 on the power play while DePaul registered a goal on three opportunities.Â

Drury started Sunday's game quick when
Sam Stack and
Tyler Sillanpaa set up Patty Labutis for an odd-man rush goal 2:09 into the opening period. Sillanpaa then set up
Xavier Abel just 18 seconds later when Sillanpaa slipped a pass to the speedy forward for another goal off the transition. DePaul answered with two quick goals of their own at 9:15 and 10:19 to tie the game after the opening 20 minutes.

The experienced Blue Demons squad extended the lead early in the second period with a wrap-around opportunity followed by a 5-on-3 power play goal.
Louis Fournier answered for the Panthers from
Neil Cerrato at 5:54 of the middle frame before DePaul closed out the period with a short-handed goal in the final seconds of the period.

Drury was held scoreless in the final period while DePaul added a goal early in the period on the power play and an even-strength tally at the 16:45 mark. DePaul defense held Drury scoreless on the power play for the second-straight game, again going 0-for-7 while DePaul finished the game 2-for-6 with the extra attacker. Freshman goaltender
Josh Robins stopped 34 of 40 in 44 minutes of action while
Greyson Skirpan stopped 11 for 12 in the final 16 minutes of the game.

Drury continues the inaugural season with another home weekend against Bradley University on October 28
th and 29
th. The puck drops at the Jordan Valley Ice Park on Friday at 7:00pm and at 6:00pm on Saturday.
