Panthers defeat Bearcats in straight sets as the winning streak goes to five.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury won their fifth straight match on Friday at the O'Reilly Family Event Center. The Panthers swept the McKendree Bearcats 25-14, 25-18, and 25-21 to move to 12-14 on the year and 3-5 in the GLVC.
 
This is the seventh time this year and the second straight game that the Panthers took care of business in three sets. Drury dominated the first set going on a 9-1 run midway through to take a 16-7 lead. The Bearcats fought back to bring the score to 16-12 but an 8-1 run after a timeout gave the Panthers the breathing room to win the first set.
 
The second set was a back-and-forth battle until a Hanna Vorhies kill and Brianna Binder attack error led to a Bearcat timeout with the score at 22-18. Drury then went on finish the second set with three straight points winning 25-18.
 
While the third set was the closest of the three, Drury never trailed.
 
Three Panthers had double-digit kills with Chloe Rear leading the way with 12. Salma Lewis and Stormi Tadlock had 10 each. Rear also led the Panthers in assists with 24. Lexi Basler led the way in terms of kills with 11.
 
Claire Diercks led the Bearcats in kills with 6. Amber Williams had 14 assists and Brianna Binder had 7 digs.
 
The Panthers will be at home tomorrow at the O'Reilly Family Event Center as they face the University of Indianapolis at 3 pm.
