ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Maryville rallied past Drury in the second set and pulled away from the Panthers in the third set on their way to a 3-0 on Saturday in St. Louis, Missouri.
The Saints improved to 13-7 and 3-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Drury dropped to 7-14 and 2-5 in the league.
After Maryville won the opening frame 25-22, the Panthers owned a 22-21 lead in the second before the Saints battled back to win four of the next five points and the set 25-23. Maryville led in the third set 14-13, then took four of the next five points, and Drury couldn't recover as the Saints closed out the match with a 25-20 win.
Drury's
Chloe Rear posted 18 kills, 13 assists and nine digs, while
Gabby Birmingham contributed 18 assists and 10 digs.
Juliana Squire had a team-high 21 digs.
Caroline Glastetter had 13 kills for Maryville, and teammate Ella Brinkmann added 12 kills and 19 digs. The win for the Saints was their first over Drury since 2014, snapping a 10-game Panthers winning streak in the series between the two teams.
Drury returns to the floor in the Midwest Regional Crossover Tournament Oct. 14-15 in Hammond, Indiana. Match-ups and a tournament schedule will be announced early next week.
