18th ranked UMSL stifles Panthers

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—18th ranked Missouri-St. Louis employed their stifling defense and had an answer every time Drury tried to chip away at their lead as the Tritons took down the Panthers 86-63 on Thursday in St. Louis, Mo.

UMSL kept their record perfect as they went to 7-0 and 2-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Drury fell to 2-5 and 0-2 in the league.

The Tritons stymied the Panthers in the first half holding Drury to just 23 points in the first 20 points and led 39-23 at the intermission.

Three times in the second half, Drury chipped within 13, but UMSL never allowed the game to get closer than that. When the Panthers pulled within 13 with 11:41 left, Tritons guard Isaiah Fuller reeled off eight straight points himself as part of his 31-point game and put the game out of reach.

Fuller went 12 for 15 from the field, 2 for 3 from three-point range, was 4 of 4 from the foul line and added five steals on the defensive end.

Quenton Shelton and Adam Moore both had 14 points to lead Drury.

UMSL shot 58 percent from the field, hitting 34 of 58 shots. The Panthers made 22 of their 50 shots for a 44 percent mark from the field.

Drury continues their road trip on Saturday when they play at Maryville for a 3 pm tipoff in St. Louis, Missouri.
