OZARK, Mo.— The Drury Panthers swept Fort Hays State on Sunday and started their season with four straight wins. Drury won game one 11-3, then took the second game 19-7 at US Baseball Park in Ozark on Sunday.
In game one, Fort Hays State scored a run in the first inning, but the Panthers responded in the bottom half of the inning and took the lead on a double by
Stephen Randazzo that drove in three runs. Drury expanded their lead and went up 6-2 in the third with solo home runs by Randazzo and
Wes Collins.
Mason Meeks (1-0) got the win for the Panthers, firing a seven-inning complete game, giving up four hits, three earned runs, and three walks while striking out six.
The Tigers had a 6-2 on Drury going into the bottom of the fourth inning of game two, but Drury scored five runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 7-6 lead. They followed with six runs in the fifth, then six more in the sixth inning to win in seven innings 19-7.
Nikko Calabro went 2 for 4 with two doubles, four runs batted in, and three runs scored, while
Aaron Mann went 4 for 4, with four runs, four RBI's, and two doubles.
While Drury went to 4-0, Fort Hays State ended the day 0-8.
The Panthers return to the field next weekend when they host Winona State in a three-game series starting on Friday, Feb. 18, at US Baseball Park in Ozark.
