PITTSBURG, Kan.- Drury split two games on Saturday as they blasted Winona State 12-2, but lost in the bottom of the seventh at Pittsburg State 8-7 on Saturday in Pittsburg, Kansas.
Drury blew out Winona State with a nine-run fourth inning. Gena Kulberg, Meagan Mullany, Lauren Beier, and Leaha Wininger all homered in the fourth as the Panthers took a 12-2 lead and closed out the game in five innings. Beier and Wininger's blasts were both three-run shots.
Kristina Bettis, the reigning Pitcher of the Week in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, got the win to improve to 2-0. Bettis struck out 10 batters in five innings and gave up five hits and two runs.
In Drury's second game of the night, the Panthers owned a 5-2 after the top of the third. The Gorillas chipped away with a run in third, and two more in the fifth. Pittsburg State started the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run from Paxten Hayes, then an RBI double by Madison Szymanksi tied the game at 7-7. A single by Kami Zimmerman drove in the winning run.
Gena Kulberg went 3 for 3 for Drury with a run and three RBI's in the game.
The Panthers return to Pitt State to face the same two teams tomorrow. Drury will take on Winona State again at 1 pm, then the Gorillas at 3 pm.
