PITTSBURG, Kan.- Drury split two games on Saturday as they blasted Winona State 12-2, but lost in the bottom of the seventh at Pittsburg State 8-7 on Saturday in Pittsburg, Kansas.
Drury edged 3-2 by Winona State in their first game of the day. Warriors starter Liz Pautz (3-0) struck out 13 batters and allowed only two runs. The Panthers managed eight hits, but stranded 11 runners.
Drury took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI-single by
Lauren Beier. The Panthers allowed three unearned runs in the 3
rd inning to fall behind 3-1, but pulled within one when a double by Beier drove in
Kailyne Luna. Drury could not pull even, though, as Beier (0-1) took the loss despite going seven innings without allowing an earned run.
Kristina Bettis set a Drury single-game record with 15 strikeouts as the Panthers defeated Pittsburg State 8-3 in their second game of the day. Bettis (4-1) got the win going seven innings allowing four hits, three runs, two earned runs, and five walks while fanning 15. Last week, she tied Drury's single-game record with 12 strikeouts. In two games this weekend, the junior from Sewanee, Illinois, struck out 25 hitters in just 12 innings pitched.
Beier went 1 for 1 with a home run, and she walked three times while scoring twice.
Gena Kulberg went 2 for 4 with a run, an RBI, and a double.
The Panthers ended the day with a 5-5 record and will play their home opener this weekend in the Drury Invitational at Thompson Field.
