Panthers complete sweep of Winona St. to improve to 7-0

OZARK, Mo.— Drury's perfect start continued on Sunday as they improved to 7-0 with a 9-2 win over Winona State at US Baseball Park.

The Panthers completed a three-game sweep of the Warriors during the weekend and dropped Winona State to 0-6 on the season.

Drury had to score late in the game to pull out their seventh-straight win, though, as the Panthers broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the seventh with a five-run frame. DU took the lead on a Tyler Bastunas RBI-single, Jackson Dierenfeldt drew a bases-loaded walk, then Cooper Munro broke the game open with a pinch-hit double that drove in three runs.

"Brandt Schaffitzel rolled his ankle, so we brought in Cooper, who's had a couple of good swings and good at-bats this year, to pinch-hit," said Drury head coach Scott Nasby. "He had some clutch hits for us last year and we thought he'd get the barrel on the ball, and he did."

The Panthers took a 7-2 lead after the fifth and tacked on two more runs in the eighth.

"In the first four innings, even though we didn't score much, we were able to chase their starter and that allowed us to see a few more guys out of the pen instead of somebody who's pitching really well against us," added Nasby.

Tyler Bastunas went 3 for 4 with three runs batted in, three runs scored and a triple.

The two teams conclude their three-game series on Sunday with a game starting at noon at US Baseball Park.

Mason Meeks (2-0) went eight innings, allowing four hits, two runs, one earned, and no walks with three strikeouts.

Drury is back at home next weekend when they host Wisconsin Parkside in a three-game series starting on Friday at 3 pm at US Baseball Park.
