KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Drury starting pitcher
Kristina Bettis fired a no-hitter in a 7-0 win in game one, but the Panthers ended up splitting a doubleheader against Rockhurst as the Hawks won the second game 5-2.
Drury ended the day 13-8 and 1-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Rockhurst moved their record to 7-9 and 3-1 in the GLVC.
Bettis fired Drury's first no-hitter in 11 years and the second on in program history as the junior from Swansea, Illinois, blanked Rockhurst in game one striking out six batters while allowing one walk.
The game was scoreless until the sixth inning when Drury put five runs on the board. The Panthers got an RBI-single from
Megan Parsley to get on the board. Two batters later, Regan Hight blasted a grand slam to give the Panthers a 5-0 lead. Drury tacked on two more runs in the seventh to go ahead 7-0.
The Panthers could not take full advantage of four Rockhurst errors in game two and fell 5-2 in the second game. The Hawks took a 3-1 lead with two runs in the second inning, then built a 5-2 advantage with two more runs in the third.
Hawks pitcher Anna Stephen held the Panthers two five hits, and she shut out Drury from the third inning through the end of the game.
Abby Tiemann went 2 for 4 with an RBI for Drury.
Drury continues the road trip on Tuesday with a doubleheader at William Jewell. Game one is scheduled for a noon first pitch at the Urban Youth Academy Field in Liberty, Missouri.
