SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury extended their winning streak to six games as they swept Southwest Baptist in a doubleheader on Sunday, winning game one 3-1, then the second game 8-3 at Thompson Field in Springfield.
The Panthers raised their record to 19-8 and 5-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Bearcats dropped to 5-16 and 0-6 in the GLVC.
Kristina Bettis (12-1) got the win in game one for Drury as she allowed just one run on three hits in the complete-game victory. The junior from Swansea, Illinois, struck out nine batters against two walks. The earned run she allowed in the second inning was the first she had surrendered in six games and 43 innings of work.
Drury took a 2-1 lead in the third inning on an RBI-double by
Gracie Thomas, and the Panthers tacked on another run in the fifth as
Lauren Beier singled to drive in
Abby Tiemann, who started the frame with a triple. Beier finished the game 3 for 3 with two runs, two stolen bases, and an RBI.
Southwest Baptist grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first inning of game two, but the Panthers took control of the game with a seven-run third inning. Six different Drury hitters had an RBI in the frame as they sent 12 hitters to the plate.
Gracie Thomas' two-RBI single capped the inning to give the Panthers an 8-3 lead.
Lauren Fiene (1-0) got the win in relief for Drury as she entered the game in the sixth inning and finished the contest allowing no runs on two hits with no walks and two strikeouts.
Rylee Kolb went 2 for 3 for the Panthers with a double, a run, and two RBI's.
Drury is back at home next Saturday when they host Maryville in a doubleheader starting at noon at Thompson Field.
