SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– The Drury Panthers are home for two conference doubleheaders this weekend as they face Maryville on Saturday and Missouri S&T on Sunday. Both twin-bills start at noon at Thompson Field in Springfield.
All three teams are around the top of the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings as the Panthers enter the weekend 19-8 and 5-1 in the league. Drury has won six straight heading into Saturday. Maryville is 12-9 overall but has won seven of their eight contests in the league, with their only loss coming last Sunday in a doubleheader split against William Jewell. Missouri S&T is 16-10 and 6-2 in the GLVC. The Miners will go into a Friday doubleheader against Cottey College, having won seven straight games.
The Panthers are 11-14 against Maryville all-time, having lost two of three to the Saints last year. The two teams split last season's doubleheader, then Maryville defeated Drury 3-0 in the GLVC Tournament. The Panthers are 15-17 against Missouri S&T all-time but swept the Miners in a doubleheader last year, winning 12-2 and 10-0 in Rolla.
Kristina Bettis is Drury's probable starting pitcher for one of the games in each doubleheader and enters the weekend 12-0 with a 1.52 earned run average. The junior from Swansea, Illinois, earned NCAA-II and GLVC Player of the Week honors last week, going 4-0 with a 0.25 ERA in four starts that included a no-hitter against Rockhurst last week. Bettis leads the GLVC in strikeouts, is tied for the conference lead in wins, and has won seven-straight starts.
Following this weekend, the Panthers go on the road for a doubleheader on Saturday at Missouri-St. Louis, and at Lindenwood on Sunday.
