Drury launches 2022 season vs. Upper Iowa at Lake Country Soccer Complex
The Drury Panthers open the 2022 season on Friday, hosting Upper Iowa at the Lake Country Soccer Complex in Springfield. Kickoff is at 7:30 pm.
 
Drury returns 13 lettermen from a team that went 8-7-4 and 7-3-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference in 2021. Fifth-year senior Jamie O'Brien is back on the roster after scoring nine goals in 13 games last year. He enters the season tied for eighth on Drury's all-time goal-scoring list with 28. O'Brien needs one goal to move even with Chad Jaeger (1992-93) for seventh all-time.
 
Upper Iowa went 10-7-1 last year and 7-6-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Peacocks are led by head coach Jason Carlson, who served as the team's head coach from 2013-16 and returned to lead the squad after five seasons at two other Division II stops.
 
Upper Iowa won last year's meeting 1-0 in Fayette, Iowa, but Drury leads the all-time series 2-1-1.
 
The Panthers continue their season-opening homestand on Sunday when they host Northeastern State for a 2:30 pm at Harrison Stadium. The Riverhawks went 10-10 and 7-5 in the Great American Conference in 2021 and will open this campaign on Friday at Missouri S&T.
 
Northeastern State won last year's match-up with a 1-0 win at home over the Panthers on Sept. 2. Drury leads the all-time series, though, 7-3.
