Panthers open 2022 schedule in Minnesota
The Drury Panthers will open the 2022 schedule facing three nationally ranked teams in the St. Cloud State / Concordia Tournament in Minnesota on Friday and Saturday.
Â
Drury is coming off of a 20-11 season and returns nine letter winners, including All-GLVC selection
Chloe Rear. The Panthers received a first-place vote in the league's preseason poll and are picked for a sixth-place finish in the conference.
Â
All four of Drury's opponents in their season-opening tournament had winning records last year, and three of the teams are in the top 25.
Â
Minnesota-Duluth, the only squad in the group not nationally ranked, received votes in the national poll and went 18-11 last year. Drury takes on the Bulldogs on Friday in their first game of the year, and it will be the first-ever meeting between the two clubs.
Â
St. Cloud State is ranked ninth in NCAA-II and went 27-5 last season. DU and St. Cloud have not played one another since 2013, when the two teams met twice that year and split the two matches 1-1.
Â
Winona State went 28-5 in 2021 and is ranked 15
th in the NCAA-II preseason poll. Drury's meeting with the Warriors on Saturday will be the first-ever game between the two teams.
Â
The Panthers conclude the tournament at Concordia (Minn.) on Saturday. The Golden Bears have won nine NCAA-II Championships since 2007, with the latest in 2017. They are ranked sixth in the nation to start the season after going 24-9 last year and falling in the NCAA-II Regional finals to Washburn. Drury will also be playing Concordia for the first time in team history on Saturday.
Â
Following the trip to Minnesota, the Panthers return home and will co-host a tournament with Southwest Baptist Sept. 2-3. All of Drury's games will be played at the O'Reilly Family Event Center, and the Panthers will play two home contests on Friday and two more on Saturday.
