LIBERTY, Mo.– The Drury Panthers continued their Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule with a 3-0 win at William Jewell on Friday evening in Liberty, Missouri.
Â
Drury moved 4-0-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the league, while the Cardinals went to 0-5 and 0-2 in the GLVC.
Â
With the Panthers trying to bounce back from a 0-0 draw at the hands of Quincy the past weekend, it only seemed right that the first goal came from the reigning GLVC Offensive Player of the Year
Elsa Gonzalez. Gonzalez ran onto the ball after a clearance by goalkeeper
Kaitlin Knetzke took a couple of bounces. Gonzalez then ran past a Cardinal defender and put the ball past the goalkeeper to put the score line in favor of the Panthers heading into halftime.
Â
After the break, Knetzke was tested by the William Jewell attack, making an acrobatic save in the 69
th minute. The Panthers then doubled their lead as Junior midfielder
Kristy Castelan not only won the penalty but also curled the ensuing kick into the right side of the goal. In the waning moments of the game sophomore forward
Tara Simon picked up the ball from her own half and made a beautiful run before putting the game away with the third and final goal for the Panthers.
Â
The shot totals were 19 to 6 in favor of Drury, 10 of Drury's shots were on goal as compared to only 5 of Williams Jewell's. Knetzke made five saves en route to her sixth shutout of the year.
The Panthers return to action on Sunday, Sept. 18 at home against Truman St. Kickoff will be at 12:00 pm.
