Panthers fall at McKendree

LEBANON, Ill.– McKendree scored twice in the second half to come from behind and defeat Drury 2-1 in Lebanon, Illinois, on Sunday afternoon.

Sunday's game marked the end of the regular season and the Panthers will head the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament 12-3-2 overall and a 9-2-2 record in the league. Drury's 9-2-2 mark is the program's best conference record in team history. The Panthers end the regular season third in the league standings. McKendree improved to 13-1-3, 9-1-3 in the GLVC and jumped to a second-place finish.

Drury had a 1-0 lead at halftime as Mel Schneider just before intermission. Her third goal of the season came on an assist by Kourtney Tucker.

The Bearcats evened the game early in the second half as Lena Higgins notched her fourth goal of the year, scoring in the 48th minute.

McKendree then took the lead on an own goal in the 73rd minute on a mishandled ball in front of the net.

The Panthers owned a 17-8 advantage in shots and put six on goal to McKendree's two. 12 of Drury's 17 shots came in the second half, but the Bearcats kept the Panthers off the board in the second 45 minutes for the win.

The two goals allowed by Drury are the most they have allowed since their season-opening game against Washburn on Sept. 1, a 2-0 loss in St. Louis.

The Panthers will host a GLVC tournament quarterfinals game at Harrison on Sun., Nov. 5 against the league's sixth-seeded team. The GLVC will announce the tournament bracket following the completion of a game between Missouri-St. Louis and Truman State scheduled for Tuesday.
