SPRINGFIELD, Ill.– 18
th-ranked Illinois Springfield took advantage of a late red card issued to Drury and scored two goals in the final seven minutes of regulation to defeat the Panthers 2-0 in Springfield, Illinois., on Sunday.
Drury dropped to 2-5-5 and 2-3-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Praire Stars stayed perfect in the GLVC, going to 7-0 in the league and 8-1-2 overall.
Drury and Illinois Springfield were scoreless through the first half, and the Panthers had a 3-1 advantage in shots at the intermission. It was still deadlocked in the 80
th minute when Drury was issued a red card on Matteo Ledoux's second caution of the game.
The Prairie Stars struck quickly after that, as Ricardo Sandulli scored in the 84
th minute for his second goal of the year. 29 seconds later, Illinois Springfield scored again, this time from Adrian Adames, his fifth of the season.
The Panthers had four shots in the game, two from
Lui Bull, and both were on goal.
Illinois Springfield goalkeeper Andrea Scapolo made three saves in the shutout win.
Drury returns home for their next game when they host Southwest Baptist at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 15 at Harrison Stadium in the Curry Sports Complex.
